Michael Goetz was born in St. Petersburg, Florida. After graduating with honors from the University of Florida College of Law, Michael joined the international law firm of Holland & Knight LLP, where his practice focused on the defense of claims involving product liability, medical negligence, and general liability, as well as complex commercial litigation. He became a partner at the firm on January 1, 2000.
In 2002 Michael joined Morgan & Morgan, P.A., where his practice shifted to the prosecution of personal injury and wrongful death claims on behalf of individuals and consumer classes. He has represented hundreds of clients in cases involving automobile and premises liability, nursing home neglect and abuse, and environmental mass torts. Michael also handles mass tort actions for the firm nationwide, including product liability claims involving recalled pharmaceuticals and medical devices.
Michael holds the highest rating awarded for legal ability and ethics (“AV”) by Martindale-Hubbell. In 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008, he was designated by Florida Trend magazine as a “Florida Legal Elite” in the field of Civil Trial. “Legal Elite” selection results from peer nomination and independent research on the candidates; less than 2% of lawyers in Florida are selected as “Legal Elite.”
From 2007 to 2016, Michael was designated by Law & Politics Magazine as a Florida “Super Lawyer” in the field of personal injury. “Super Lawyer” selection results from peer nominations, a panel review process, and independent research on the candidates, No more than 5% of lawyers in Florida are selected as “Super Lawyers.”
Michael Goetz was admitted to The Florida Bar in 1992. He is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in Florida and is routinely granted special admission to appear in federal courts around the country. He is an active member in the American Association for Justice, The Florida Justice Association, the Hillsborough County Bar Association, the Tampa Bay Trial Lawyers, and the American Trial Lawyers Association.
